By June 2011 Google announced that, they have started support for micro-data format. Basically micro-data format standardize by schema.org. Google announced as new initiative from Google, Bing and Yahoo to create and support a common set of schemas for structured data markup for various sections like Product, Event, Person, Organization, Recipe etc.
Useability of this type coded snippets, “itemized search” in search engines. It can be easily implemented as this is simple markup properties of existing HTML tags.
If we consider “Person” is our example, then below is the sample for how we can create micro-data format code for a person’s information. So that, search engines can easily treat this information as related of this particular person and user can see provided information in search engine.
Normal HTML Markup:
<div> I am Santanu Brahma working as a Software Engineer. Some time people call me as Sankar. You may visit my website at <a href="http://www.santanu.net">www.santanu.net</a>. I live in Burdwan, India. </div>
HTML with Micro-Data:
<div itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Person" itemscope=""> I am <span itemprop="name">Santanu Brahma</span> working as a <span itemprop="title">Software Engineer</span>. Some time people call me as <span itemprop="nickname">Sankar</span>. You may visit my website at <a itemprop="url" href="http://www.santanu.net">www.santanu.net</a>. I live in <span itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Address" itemscope="" itemprop="address"><span itemprop="region">Burdwan</span>, <span itemprop="country-name">India</span></span>. </div>
